What does NordVPN Basis Premium actually do?

It routes your internet traffic through an encrypted NordVPN server and replaces your visible IP address with the address of that server. Basis Premium is the retail name for the NordVPN Basic tier, so the VPN itself is complete: over 9,400 servers in 149 countries, the NordLynx protocol, Kill Switch, and the Specialty Servers section with Double VPN, Onion Over VPN, obfuscated and P2P servers. Standard Threat Protection is included and filters ads and known malicious domains at DNS level, but only while the VPN connection is active. How does Basis Premium differ from the Plus, Complete and Prime plans?

The VPN is identical in all four tiers; only the bundled Nord Security applications change. Does Basis Premium include a dedicated IP and split tunneling?

Split tunneling and the Specialty Servers are included, a dedicated IP is not. NordVPN sells the dedicated IP as a separate paid add-on for every tier, including Prime, so upgrading the plan will not give you a personal IP address. Split tunneling belongs to the application itself and lets you keep, for example, your online banking outside the tunnel while the rest of the traffic stays encrypted. The one function genuinely missing at this tier is Threat Protection Pro, the version that inspects downloaded files and works even without an active VPN connection; it starts with Plus and runs on Windows and macOS only.
