What are the main benefits of Avast Business Antivirus Pro Plus?

Avast Business Antivirus Pro Plus is the top tier of Avast's earlier business antivirus line and is administered centrally through the cloud-based Avast Business Hub. Avast documents this tier as the direct predecessor of Avast Ultimate Business Security, which is the name the same protection level carries today.

One console – Policy changes reach every endpoint without desk visits.
Mail-level scanning – Exchange filtering stops attachments before they reach mailboxes.
Patch automation – Windows and third-party patches distributed from the console.
Remote access defence – Remote Access Shield blocks RDP brute-force attempts.
Network visibility – Network Inspector flags weak router and Wi-Fi settings.
Roaming device cover – Laptops stay managed outside the office network.

Which company size is Avast Business Antivirus Pro Plus suitable for?

The product is built for organisations that need one place to see and control every Windows and macOS device, without running a security operations team. It fits small companies and the smaller end of the mid-market well. Larger organisations usually reach a point where auditors and customers ask for detection telemetry and root-cause analysis, which this product does not produce.

Does Avast Business Antivirus Pro Plus meet the requirements of Swiss cybersecurity legislation?

The reporting duty introduced by the revised Information Security Act applies to operators of critical infrastructure, such as energy and drinking water suppliers, transport operators, listed hospitals, data centres and cantonal or communal administrations, so most commercial buyers are not directly affected. Those who are affected must report a cyberattack to the Federal Office for Cybersecurity (BACS) within 24 hours of discovering it, with 14 days to complete the report. Avast Business Antivirus Pro Plus supports that duty at the detection end: the Business Hub raises alerts and timestamps threat events centrally, so the moment of discovery can be established and an initial report can be filed on time. It does not reconstruct how an attacker entered, which systems were touched or what data left the network, because the product contains no EDR component and keeps no long-term event telemetry, so the follow-up report within 14 days still depends on your own logging or an external incident responder. This text is a product description and not legal advice; whether your organisation falls under the reporting duty should be clarified with qualified legal counsel.

Does Avast Business Antivirus Pro Plus meet the requirements of European cybersecurity legislation?

No security product makes an organisation compliant with the NIS 2 Directive, because the directive addresses organisational risk management rather than software features. NIS 2 requires measures in areas including risk analysis and security policies, incident handling, business continuity and backup management, supply chain security, vulnerability handling and disclosure, cyber hygiene and training, cryptography, and access control with multi-factor authentication. Avast Business Antivirus Pro Plus contributes to three of these areas concretely: malware prevention and alerting for incident handling, automated Windows and third-party patching for vulnerability handling and cyber hygiene, and encrypted transport through SecureLine VPN for a narrow part of the cryptography requirement. It contributes nothing to supply chain security, business continuity planning, access control or multi-factor authentication, and the included Cloud Backup add-on is a separate purchase rather than part of the package. The gap that most often surfaces in a NIS 2 readiness review is evidence: the console reports on protection status, but it does not deliver retained forensic telemetry or a syslog or SIEM export that an assessor can trace an incident through.

What should you know about official assessments of Avast?

No Swiss authority has issued a warning, restriction or sales ban concerning Avast, and none exists at European Union level either. Two data protection decisions are on record and both are final. In April 2024 the Czech data protection authority confirmed a fine of 351 million Czech crowns against Avast Software for transferring pseudonymised browsing histories of roughly 100 million users to its subsidiary Jumpshot in 2019 without a lawful basis, a decision coordinated with other European supervisory authorities. In June 2024 the United States Federal Trade Commission finalised an order that bars Avast from selling or licensing browsing data for advertising purposes, requires a 16.5 million dollar payment and imposes independent privacy assessments for twenty years. Avast states that it closed Jumpshot voluntarily in January 2020, that it disagrees with the allegations and characterisation of the facts, and that the operational provisions match its current privacy practices. Independent testing of the endpoint protection itself is unaffected: Avast cites an AV-TEST corporate endpoint certification for Ultimate Business Security 25.10 from June 2025. In practice this matters most where procurement asks about vendor data handling history, which is common in public sector tenders and in supply chain assessments, and matters least where the product is bought as workstation protection for a company outside those processes.

Does Avast Business Antivirus Pro Plus help with security questionnaires from large customers?

Partly, and the split is predictable. It answers the questions about deployed malware protection on all endpoints, centrally enforced security policies, protection of mail and file servers including Exchange and SharePoint, blocked removable media and web categories, and a documented patch process for operating systems and third-party applications, all of which can be evidenced with a console report. It does not answer the questions about endpoint detection and response, retained security telemetry, log forwarding to a SIEM, mean time to detect and respond, encryption of endpoint disks with central key escrow, multi-factor authentication, or mobile device management, because none of those functions exist in the product. Closing the gaps usually means keeping Avast for prevention and adding the missing controls where they already sit in your environment, for example disk encryption through Windows BitLocker with your directory service and multi-factor authentication through your existing identity provider. If the questionnaire specifically demands EDR, no higher Avast Business tier resolves that, so plan a separate detection and response product rather than a tier upgrade.

What is the difference between Essential, Premium and Ultimate Business Security?

The single decisive difference is not the antivirus engine. All three tiers run the identical endpoint protection and firewall components and receive the same unified build with every engine update, so detection quality does not vary between them. What separates them are the added services: Premium adds SecureLine VPN, USB Protection and Web Control, and Ultimate additionally includes managed patch management that the lower tiers only offer as a paid add-on. Avast Business Antivirus Pro Plus is the legacy name of the top tier and maps to Ultimate Business Security. One practical consequence is that the cloud console is optional for Essential and Premium but mandatory at the Ultimate level, because patch management only runs as a managed service.

Which limitations should you know before buying?

Platform coverage is the first thing to check against your estate: the package protects Windows workstations, Windows servers and macOS devices, while Linux endpoints and servers require Avast Business Antivirus for Linux, which is a separate product. Several components are Windows-only, specifically SecureLine VPN, Browser Shield, Patch Management and Cloud Backup, so a Mac fleet receives the antivirus shields but not the privacy and patching layer. Mobile devices are outside the scope entirely, since Avast removed mobile security from its small business solutions and the related management options no longer exist in the console. The on-premises management console is not available for this generation of the product, which is a genuine constraint for organisations that deliberately keep management traffic inside their own network. The two follow-up purchases buyers most often make are Cloud Backup for ransomware recovery and a separate detection and response product once a customer or auditor asks for EDR.

Frequently asked questions about Avast Business Antivirus Pro Plus

Can Avast Business Antivirus Pro Plus be managed from an on-premises console?

No. Avast states that its small business solutions work only with the cloud-based Business Hub and are not supported on the Avast Business On-Premise Console. If an on-premises console is a hard requirement in your environment, this product line is the wrong fit.

Is this a base product, an add-on or a renewal?

It is a full base product with its own management platform and does not require any other Avast product underneath it. Cloud Backup and Premium Remote Control are the separate add-on services in this family, and patch management is included at this tier rather than bought separately.

Which protection components are missing on macOS?

Avast marks SecureLine VPN, Browser Shield, Patch Management and Cloud Backup as unavailable for macOS devices. Mac endpoints still receive the full set of antivirus and firewall shields, including File, Web, Mail and Behavior Shield, so the difference concerns the privacy and patching services rather than malware protection itself.
