The decisive question is not headcount but whether someone in the organisation can investigate an alert. This edition prevents attacks and reports them; it does not provide a way to search historical telemetry afterwards. Management is cloud-only, so there is no on-premises console variant to evaluate.

Does Sophos Central Intercept X Advanced meet the requirements of Swiss cybersecurity legislation?

The reporting obligation under the revised Information Security Act applies to operators of critical infrastructure, for example energy and drinking water suppliers, transport companies, listed hospitals, data centres and cantonal and municipal administrations, not to every Swiss company. Since 1 April 2025 these organisations must report a cyberattack to the Federal Office for Cybersecurity (BACS) within 24 hours of discovery, with a further 14 days to complete the report. Intercept X Advanced supports that deadline in one specific way: the Sophos Central console records each detection with a timestamp, the affected device and the file or process involved, which is the minimum needed to file a first report on time. What it does not give you is the material for the 14-day follow-up, because reconstructing how an attacker entered and what else was touched requires the historical telemetry and threat hunting found in Sophos EDR or Sophos XDR. It also does not cover reporting workflows, responsibilities or escalation paths, which are organisational and must be written down before an incident happens. Does Sophos Central Intercept X Advanced meet the requirements of European cybersecurity legislation?

No software product makes an organisation NIS 2 compliant, because the directive addresses governance, processes and accountability rather than tooling. The NIS 2 Directive requires essential and important entities to take risk management measures in defined categories, among them incident handling, business continuity and backup management, supply chain security, access control, cryptography, and basic cyber hygiene and training. Intercept X Advanced contributes to incident handling through detection, blocking and console reporting, and to basic cyber hygiene through application, peripheral and web control policies enforced centrally on every managed device. It does not contribute to business continuity and backup management, because CryptoGuard rollback reverses an encryption attempt on a live device and is not a backup. It also does not cover supply chain security, cryptography or awareness training, and the incident notification timelines in the directive call for investigation depth this edition does not provide. Management approval, oversight and staff training obligations remain entirely with the organisation.

Does Sophos Central Intercept X Advanced help with security questionnaires from large customers?

Partly, and the split is predictable. This edition gives clean answers to the items on endpoint malware protection, whether protection is centrally managed and enforced, whether removable media and application execution are controlled, and whether protection status per device can be evidenced from a console report. It does not answer the items that usually follow: whether security telemetry is retained for a defined period, whether an incident can be investigated after the fact, whether disk encryption is enforced and centrally recoverable, whether servers and mailboxes are covered, and whether third-party software is patched on a schedule. Each of those is a separate Sophos subscription rather than a missing feature of this one. If several come back as gaps, moving up to Sophos EDR closes the telemetry and investigation items in a single step and keeps everything in one console, which is normally faster to evidence and cheaper to run than adding a second vendor with its own agent, console and reporting format.

The single decisive difference is that Intercept X Advanced can block an attack but cannot explain it afterwards. Both use the same prevention engine and the same agent, so detection quality on the device is identical. Sophos EDR adds guided investigation, searchable historical data and remote live response, which is what an auditor or an insurer means by incident investigation capability. Sophos XDR sits above EDR and pulls in telemetry from firewalls, email and other sources, which only pays off once you run more than endpoints.

Which limitations should you know before buying?

This licence covers Windows and macOS workstations only: the Sophos endpoint installers are published for Windows and macOS, while Linux machines and servers are licensed and installed as Sophos Endpoint - Server instead. Devices running Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 32-bit or older Linux distributions need the separate Sophos Endpoint for Legacy Platforms add-on, without which updates begin to fail and the console flags the device. Management is cloud-only with no on-premises console variant, and the data region for the account is chosen once at creation, after which customer data is locked to that region and cannot be moved, so a Swiss or European buyer should select Germany or Ireland during setup rather than discovering the constraint later. The limitation that most often triggers a follow-up purchase is the missing detection and response layer, because prevention without threat hunting means an alert can be closed but not explained. Yes. Sophos retired the Intercept X product branding and now sells this licence as Sophos Endpoint, with the Intercept X technologies unchanged inside it. The agent, the console and existing policies stay the same, so the practical difference is the name that appears on quotes and renewal paperwork.

Does this licence protect Linux machines?

No. Sophos publishes the endpoint installers for Windows and macOS, and the Linux agent is distributed under the server side of Sophos Central. Protecting a Linux machine therefore means buying server protection, even when that machine is used as a workstation.

Where is the data from Sophos Central stored?

In the region selected when the Sophos Central account is created. Sophos operates regions including Germany, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, India and Brazil, and customer data is locked to the chosen region and cannot be transferred to another one afterwards.
