It is the same app F-Secure rebranded from Lookout Life, so an older "Lookout" install is the same product. On top of scanning, it provides a Data Breach Report that warns you when a service you use is breached, plus Safe Wi-Fi and Privacy Guard for safer browsing. It runs on phones and tablets only and does not protect Windows PCs or Macs.

Who is F-Secure Mobile Security best for?

It suits someone who wants malware protection and lost-phone recovery on a single Android or iOS device, rather than a desktop security suite. The anti-theft set — Locate & Alert, remote lock and wipe, and Signal Flare, which saves the device location when the battery runs low — solves the specific problem of recovering or securing a phone after it goes missing, which a scan-only antivirus app cannot do. It is a weaker fit outside the US, because the identity-theft service is US-only. Buyers who also need PC coverage, a VPN or family controls should look at F-Secure Total instead.

Does F-Secure Mobile Security include a VPN?

No, it does not include an unlimited VPN. Its Safe Browsing uses VPN technology only to inspect the URLs you open and warn you of threats; it does not route or encrypt all of your traffic for privacy. If your goal is to hide your connection on public Wi-Fi or change your apparent location, this product will not do it. F-Secure Mobile Security protects phones and tablets only, while F-Secure Total adds Windows and Mac protection plus an unlimited VPN, a password manager, parental controls and dark-web identity monitoring. In return, Mobile Security keeps remote locate, lock and wipe anti-theft tools that F-Secure dropped from the Total mobile app. Choose Mobile Security for single-device phone protection with theft recovery; choose Total if you need desktop coverage, a VPN or family features.

Can F-Secure Mobile Security locate or wipe a lost phone?

Yes. Locate & Alert maps the device on a map and can sound an alarm even when the phone is set to silent, and Data Lock & Wipe lets you remotely lock the device, post a custom message and erase its data. Signal Flare adds a useful safeguard by saving the device's last location automatically when the battery runs low, so a dying phone still reports where it was. These tools are managed from your F-Secure account on another device. Some remote actions are more limited on iOS than on Android because of Apple's platform restrictions.

Is identity theft protection available outside the US?

No, full identity theft protection is US-only. The Data Breach Report, which alerts you when your email or accounts appear in a known breach, works regardless of where you live, but the monitored identity-theft service and the related insurance coverage apply only to US users. This means a buyer outside the US still gets malware protection, anti-theft tools and breach alerts, but not the identity-restoration service. If cross-border identity monitoring matters to you, confirm coverage for your country before buying.
