ESET HOME Security Premium is a multi-layered suite that protects Windows, macOS, and Android against malware, ransomware, and phishing. It runs on ESET's NOD32 detection engine and adds three Premium-only tools: ESET LiveGuard, a cloud sandbox that detonates unknown files before they run, Secure Data file and USB encryption, and an unlimited-traffic VPN. The Safe Banking & Browsing mode opens a hardened browser for payments, so keyloggers and screen-grabbers cannot read your session. You add, remove, and check every protected device from the free ESET HOME app or web console.
Premium sits between Essential and Ultimate and is defined by four additions over Essential: ESET LiveGuard cloud sandboxing, Secure Data encryption, Folder Guard, and an unlimited VPN. Essential covers core antivirus, firewall, parental control, and anti-theft, but none of those privacy and advanced-threat tools. Ultimate keeps everything in Premium and layers on Identity Protection with dark-web and credit monitoring, Ransomware Remediation that auto-restores encrypted files, and VPN for Router. If you want zero-day file analysis and a VPN without paying for identity-theft services, Premium is the tier that fits.

Yes, Premium includes ESET's unlimited-traffic VPN, but it covers fewer devices and fewer locations than Ultimate. On a plan for up to 10 devices, the VPN runs on up to 3 of them and reaches roughly 40 countries; Ultimate's VPN runs on up to 10 devices and reaches about 70 countries. There is no daily data cap, so streaming and large downloads are not throttled by a quota. If your goal is router-level VPN that protects every device on the network at once, note that VPN for Router is Ultimate-only.
No. ESET discontinued its Password Manager and ended new sales on October 21, 2025, so subscriptions activated after that date do not include it. The app reaches end-of-life on October 18, 2027, when stored data is deleted, and ESET is not shipping a replacement. If you activated Password Manager on an older subscription, you can keep using it until that term ends, then export your vault elsewhere. For a new Premium purchase, plan to use a standalone password manager such as Bitwarden or Proton Pass.
ESET HOME Security Premium protects Windows, macOS, and Android with its antivirus engine, but iPhone and iPad get only the VPN, not on-device malware scanning. That gap is an Apple platform restriction rather than an ESET limitation, since iOS does not allow traditional antivirus apps. Coverage also shifts by platform: the firewall, parental control, and Folder Guard are Windows features, while macOS centers on antivirus, web and email scanning, and the VPN. One subscription and one ESET HOME account cover the mix of devices you choose.
Choose Premium if you want advanced threat detection, encryption, and a VPN, and you do not need identity-theft services. The two features that most often justify Ultimate are Identity Protection (dark-web monitoring, credit monitoring, and US-based recovery with $1M insurance) and Ransomware Remediation, which automatically backs up and rolls back files if ransomware slips past the shield. Identity Protection coverage is strongest in the US, so buyers outside the US get less practical value from that part of Ultimate. If ransomware auto-recovery and identity monitoring are not priorities, Premium delivers the same core engine at a lower tier.

Yes. Premium pairs Ransomware Shield with ESET LiveGuard cloud sandboxing to block known and zero-day ransomware before files are encrypted. It does not include Ransomware Remediation, the automatic backup-and-restore feature that reverses an attack after the fact, which is reserved for Ultimate. For most users, the combination of behavioral blocking and sandbox analysis stops the threat at the entry point.
ESET is built for low system impact and includes a Small System Footprint design plus a Gamer Mode that suppresses scans and pop-ups during full-screen apps. That means scheduled scans and alerts hold off while you game, present, or watch video, then resume afterward. ESET is regularly noted in independent performance tests for keeping overhead low even on older hardware.
No. ESET retired the Internet Security and Smart Security Premium names and replaced them with the ESET HOME Security tiers: Essential, Premium, and Ultimate. The underlying NOD32 protection technology carries over, so HOME Security Premium is the direct successor to the old Smart Security Premium. Renewing an older license moves you onto the matching new tier.

| Note | Internet connection required for activation and updates. Windows 10 reached Microsoft end of support on October 14, 2025. Current ESET Smart Security Premium builds support Windows 10 and Windows 11 only. Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 are legacy affected systems for current installers and upgrades because Trusted Signing support and required Microsoft updates are needed for builds released after July 2023. Existing older installations can continue receiving module updates, but new installation or upgrade on those legacy systems is restricted. Some features are not supported on Windows on ARM, including Specialized Cleaner, System Cleaner, Exploit Blocker, Deep Behavioral Inspection, and Advanced Machine Learning. |

| Note | ESET HOME Security Premium uses ESET Cyber Security on macOS. Internet connection is required to activate or upgrade the product. Full Disk Access is required for proper protection, and system extensions may also need to be allowed. A restart is required during upgrade to the latest version before granting Full Disk Access for the main app. Official current support lists macOS Big Sur 11 and later, while the current ESET Cyber Security support table explicitly names support through macOS Tahoe 26. |

| Note | ESET HOME Security Premium uses ESET Mobile Security for Android on this platform. Internet connection is required. ESET Mobile Security 11 requires a 64-bit Android operating system, and devices limited to 32-bit Android instruction sets are not supported even if the CPU itself is 64-bit. Tablet support exists, but some phone-specific functions are limited on tablets. |

| Note | ESET does not provide an antivirus solution for iOS, so there is no real-time malware scanning engine and no on-demand antivirus scanning on iPhone or iPad under ESET HOME Security Premium. The iOS role in this subscription is limited to ESET VPN and the ESET HOME management app. Current App Store metadata for ESET HOME requires iOS 16.6 or later, and recent version history shows the minimum supported iOS version was raised to version 16. |
