This product is built for a business that has no IT department and no server room. It fits owner-run offices, practices, agencies and workshops where everyone works on a laptop or a phone and there is nothing to administer centrally. As soon as policies, evidence-quality reporting or server coverage are required, it stops being the right tool.

Does Bitdefender Small Office Security meet the requirements of Swiss cybersecurity legislation?

Swiss cybersecurity obligations do not apply to every company. The revised Information Security Act obliges operators of critical infrastructure to report cyberattacks to the Federal Office for Cybersecurity (BACS) within 24 hours of discovery, and a small office outside those sectors is normally not covered. No security product makes a company NIS 2 compliant, because the directive addresses organisational measures and management accountability rather than software features. NIS 2 requires measures in categories such as risk analysis and security policies, incident handling, business continuity and backup, supply chain security, vulnerability handling, cyber hygiene and training, cryptography, and access control including multi-factor authentication. Bitdefender Small Office Security contributes to two of these: malware and phishing defence on endpoints as part of basic cyber hygiene, and a limited form of incident detection. It contributes nothing to backup, vulnerability and patch handling, encryption management, access control, multi-factor authentication or supply chain assessment. The decisive difference is server coverage: Bitdefender Ultimate Small Business Security protects Windows Server 2016 and later with Desktop Experience, while Small Office Security covers workstations and mobile devices only. The newer plan also adds webmail protection for Outlook and Gmail accounts, unlimited VPN traffic instead of a daily allowance, the SecurePass password manager, and role separation between business owner, security admin and employee. Both plans use the same protection engines and the same Bitdefender Central account, so the move changes scope and administration rather than detection quality. Bitdefender presents Ultimate Small Business Security as the successor, which is why the older name still appears in retail channels while the newer one is promoted on the vendor site.

There is no Windows Server client, so a file server, a domain controller or a small mail server stays unprotected and usually triggers a second purchase. Linux machines are not covered either, since the bundle consists of Windows, macOS, Android and iOS clients only. Administration is limited to a status view and a remote scan trigger, with no policy templates, no device groups and no scheduled reports.
