Bitdefender Small Office Security is a subscription bundle of four Bitdefender applications for Windows, macOS, Android and iOS, tied to a single Bitdefender Central account rather than a policy-driven management console. Bitdefender has since moved this line forward under the name Bitdefender Ultimate Small Business Security, which adds Windows server coverage, webmail protection and a password manager.
No console to run – Protection works without a server or dedicated administrator.
Single sign-in overview – One account shows which devices are unprotected.
Locked client settings – Staff cannot silently disable protection on Windows machines.
Ransomware remediation – Restores files that an attack encrypted on Windows.
Simple rollout – Devices are added individually from the Central account.
Safepay browser – Isolates online banking from the rest of Windows.
This product is built for a business that has no IT department and no server room. It fits owner-run offices, practices, agencies and workshops where everyone works on a laptop or a phone and there is nothing to administer centrally. As soon as policies, evidence-quality reporting or server coverage are required, it stops being the right tool.

Swiss cybersecurity obligations do not apply to every company. The revised Information Security Act obliges operators of critical infrastructure to report cyberattacks to the Federal Office for Cybersecurity (BACS) within 24 hours of discovery, and a small office outside those sectors is normally not covered. Bitdefender Small Office Security supports the detection side of that duty: the endpoint agents record blocked threats locally and the Bitdefender Central account shows which devices reported an incident, which is where a report starts. It does not support the reporting side, because there is no central event log, no exportable incident timeline and no configurable retention period, so anything BACS or an insurer asks for has to be reconstructed device by device. If your company falls under the reporting duty, this product is not sufficient on its own and a managed endpoint platform with central logging is the appropriate choice. This text is general orientation and does not constitute legal advice.
No security product makes a company NIS 2 compliant, because the directive addresses organisational measures and management accountability rather than software features. NIS 2 requires measures in categories such as risk analysis and security policies, incident handling, business continuity and backup, supply chain security, vulnerability handling, cyber hygiene and training, cryptography, and access control including multi-factor authentication. Bitdefender Small Office Security contributes to two of these: malware and phishing defence on endpoints as part of basic cyber hygiene, and a limited form of incident detection. It contributes nothing to backup, vulnerability and patch handling, encryption management, access control, multi-factor authentication or supply chain assessment. Companies in scope of NIS 2 will therefore need at minimum a backup solution, patch management and a management platform that produces evidence, alongside or instead of this product.
Partly, and only for the simplest questionnaires. It answers the items asking whether endpoint protection is installed on all workstations and mobile devices, whether it updates automatically, whether malicious websites are blocked, and whether users can switch protection off, since the administrator password on Windows is a concrete answer to the last one. It does not answer the items that carry the most weight: central logging and log retention, patch status per device, disk encryption status, backup and restore testing, multi-factor authentication, and a signed report showing fleet coverage at a given date. There is no export function that produces such a report, so those fields have to be filled in by hand or left blank. If a customer questionnaire is the reason for the purchase, moving to the Bitdefender GravityZone business line closes several of these fields through one console, which is usually cheaper than combining this product with separate patch, backup and encryption tools from different vendors.
The decisive difference is server coverage: Bitdefender Ultimate Small Business Security protects Windows Server 2016 and later with Desktop Experience, while Small Office Security covers workstations and mobile devices only. The newer plan also adds webmail protection for Outlook and Gmail accounts, unlimited VPN traffic instead of a daily allowance, the SecurePass password manager, and role separation between business owner, security admin and employee. Both plans use the same protection engines and the same Bitdefender Central account, so the move changes scope and administration rather than detection quality. Bitdefender presents Ultimate Small Business Security as the successor, which is why the older name still appears in retail channels while the newer one is promoted on the vendor site.

There is no Windows Server client, so a file server, a domain controller or a small mail server stays unprotected and usually triggers a second purchase. Linux machines are not covered either, since the bundle consists of Windows, macOS, Android and iOS clients only. The included VPN is capped at 500 MB per device per day, which covers occasional banking on hotel Wi-Fi but not a full remote working day. Administration is limited to a status view and a remote scan trigger, with no policy templates, no device groups and no scheduled reports. One regional point matters when you compare with the successor plan: the Digital Identity Protection service bundled with Bitdefender Ultimate Small Business Security offers fraud assistance only in Australia, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States, so Swiss buyers do not receive that part of the service.
Yes. Once Bitdefender registers with the Windows Security Center as the active antivirus, Microsoft Defender Antivirus switches itself off so that two real-time scanners do not run at the same time. Bitdefender Total Security also brings its own firewall module on Windows.
No. Small Office Security belongs to Bitdefender's consumer line and is administered through a Bitdefender Central account. GravityZone Small Business Security belongs to the business line, uses the GravityZone console with policies and reports, and can be extended with add-ons such as patch management, full disk encryption and email security.
No. The bundle contains clients for Windows, macOS, Android and iOS only. Linux workstations and Linux servers need a product from the GravityZone line instead.
keys.express and keys.discount are online platforms for product keys. The product keys available in our shops for Windows and other software are inexpensive, secure, legal and come with an activation guarantee.
Below you will find the most important legal information about our products.
We offer exclusively unused and non-activated product keys. The keys have never been redeemed for activation and are fully available to the purchaser for the first-time activation of the respective product. A key that has already been redeemed could no longer be used for a new activation and is therefore not offered by us.
Trading in these product keys is permissible in the European Union and in Switzerland under current case law, provided that the necessary conditions are met. These conditions are as follows:
This trade is legally permissible because the underlying license was already placed on the market with the consent of the rightholder within the EU/EEA or Switzerland in return for appropriate remuneration. As a result, the so-called principle of exhaustion has taken effect, which permits the resale of individual product keys — in particular those originating from volume license agreements. Microsoft or the respective software provider has already received appropriate remuneration for this.
keys.express and keys.discount ensure that the aforementioned conditions are met and that the lawful use of the software is guaranteed. The requirements arising from European legislation are also observed in Switzerland.
Important note: The acquisition of a product key through the transmission of a combination of numbers and letters in digital form does not, in itself, constitute a license for the lawful use of the program. The license only arises from the respective installation and the associated acceptance of the manufacturer's terms of use.
