What are the main benefits of Microsoft Project 2019 Professional?

Project Professional 2019 is the perpetual, single-PC desktop edition of Microsoft's project scheduling software, extending Project Standard 2019 with resource pooling, the Team Planner view, and the ability to connect to Project Server and Project Online. It is a standalone application focused on planning, scheduling, and tracking work, and does not include Word, Excel, or the wider Office suite.

Resource Pooling – Balance people across many projects at once.
Server Connectivity – Syncs plans with Project Server and Online.
Team Planner – Reassign tasks by dragging between team members.
What-If Testing – Inactivate tasks without losing their data.
One-Time Purchase – Pay once, no recurring subscription fee.
Offline Planning – Full scheduling works without internet access.

What does Microsoft Project 2019 Professional do?

It plans, schedules, and tracks projects on a single Windows PC using Gantt charts, task dependencies, critical-path analysis, and baselines saved in the .mpp file format. Compared with Project Standard 2019, the Professional edition adds a shared resource pool, the Team Planner view for drag-and-drop workload balancing, inactive tasks for what-if analysis, and a direct connection to Project Server and Project Online. Project 2019 also introduced task linking through a Predecessors and Successors drop-down, so schedulers no longer type task IDs by hand, plus a read-only Task Summary Name field and timeline bars that display task progress. The application installs locally and targets project managers who build detailed schedules rather than teams that need browser-based co-editing.

Who is Microsoft Project 2019 Professional best suited for?

It fits project managers and schedulers who run Project locally on Windows 10 or later and need the resource and server features that Project Standard 2019 lacks. The concrete dividing line is resource pooling and Project Server/Online sync: if you manage several projects that draw on the same people or equipment, the Professional shared resource pool flags over-allocation that Standard cannot detect across separate files. It also suits schedulers who test alternatives, because inactive tasks switch parts of a plan off without deleting the underlying data. Teams that mainly need cloud co-editing and a browser interface are better served by a Project Plan subscription, since the 2019 desktop app has no real-time co-authoring.

How does Project Professional 2019 differ from Project Standard 2019?

Both editions share the same scheduling engine, Gantt charts, and built-in reports, but Professional adds four capabilities Standard does not have: a shared resource pool across projects, the Team Planner view, inactive tasks, and synchronization with Project Server and Project Online. Standard is strictly a single-file, single-PC tool that cannot connect to a Project Server, so it has no timesheet submission and no SharePoint task sync. Both are one-time purchases, and both reached end of support on October 14, 2025. The table below lists the verified differences.

Built-in reports	✓	✓

How does Project 2019 Professional compare to a Project Plan subscription?

Project Professional 2019 is a one-time purchase installed on one PC, while the Project Plan 1, 3, and 5 subscriptions are recurring plans that add the web-based Project for the web and, in the higher tiers, demand and portfolio management. The desktop 2019 app, Project Online, and Project Server do not offer real-time co-editing; only Project for the web lets several managers edit the same plan at once. Project 2019 Professional also receives no new features and, since October 14, 2025, no longer receives security updates. A subscription suits browser-based collaboration and ongoing updates; the perpetual 2019 desktop app suits managers who want a fixed scheduling tool they own outright.

Does Project 2019 Professional support real-time co-authoring or live team collaboration?

No. Microsoft Project 2019 Professional, like Project Server and Project Online, does not support real-time co-editing; only Project for the web allows several people to edit one plan simultaneously. Its collaboration is asynchronous: it connects to Project Server or Project Online so managers can publish schedules, submit timesheets, and sync tasks to SharePoint, but two people cannot type in the same .mpp file at the same time. Standard 2019 has no server connection at all and shares plans only by sending the .mpp file manually. If live co-authoring is a requirement, a Project Plan subscription with Project for the web is the only route in the Project family.

What technical limitations and missing features should buyers know about?

The most important limitation is lifecycle: Project 2019 reached end of support on October 14, 2025, so it receives no further security updates, bug fixes, or technical support, though existing installations keep running. It has no Microsoft Copilot or AI-assisted scheduling, which arrived only with Project 2024, and no real-time co-authoring. It is a standalone application, so it does not include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Outlook, and it installs only on Windows 10 or later, not on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1. Deeper Microsoft Teams and modern SharePoint/OneDrive integration were expanded in Project 2021 and 2024, so buyers who expect those cloud-first workflows should weigh a newer version.

What should users check before choosing Project 2019 Professional?

First, confirm the Windows version: Project 2019 installs on Windows 10 and later and will not run on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1. Second, decide whether you actually need the Professional features — resource pooling, Team Planner, inactive tasks, and Project Server/Online sync — because for single, standalone plans, Project Standard 2019 covers the same scheduling and reporting. Third, factor in the October 14, 2025 end-of-support date, since no new security patches are issued for this version. Fourth, check that collaborators can open .mpp files, because recipients without Microsoft Project need a separate viewer to read the schedule.

Frequently asked questions about Microsoft Project 2019 Professional

Does Microsoft Project 2019 Professional require Microsoft Office to be installed?

No. Project 2019 Professional is a standalone application that installs and runs on its own and does not need Word, Excel, or a base Office installation. It can export data to Excel and Visio for visual reports when those apps are present, but neither is required to plan or track a project.

Is Microsoft Project 2019 Professional a classic desktop version?

Yes. It is a perpetual, locally installed desktop application delivered through Click-to-Run, not a streamed or browser-based tool. The app launches without a Microsoft 365 sign-in, and plans are stored locally as .mpp files unless you publish them to Project Server or Project Online.

Can Project 2019 Professional exchange files with Project 2021 or 2024?

Yes, in most cases. Project 2019 saves plans in the .mpp format, and newer desktop editions such as Project 2021 and 2024 can open Project 2019 files. Anyone without Microsoft Project installed cannot open .mpp files directly and needs a dedicated viewer or an export to PDF or Excel.

Legal Information

Legal Information About Our Products

keys.express and keys.discount are online platforms for product keys. The product keys available in our shops for Windows and other software are inexpensive, secure, legal and come with an activation guarantee.

Below you will find the most important legal information about our products.

Unused and Non-Activated Product Keys

We offer exclusively unused and non-activated product keys. The keys have never been redeemed for activation and are fully available to the purchaser for the first-time activation of the respective product. A key that has already been redeemed could no longer be used for a new activation and is therefore not offered by us.

Trading in these product keys is permissible in the European Union and in Switzerland under current case law, provided that the necessary conditions are met. These conditions are as follows:

The software must originally have been placed on the market with the consent of the rightholder within the territory of the EU, another contracting state of the EEA, or Switzerland by way of sale.
The license for the software must have been granted in return for the payment of a fee intended to enable the rightholder to obtain remuneration corresponding to the economic value of the copy of the software.
The rightholder must have granted the first acquirer the right to use the software permanently (for an unlimited period).
Any improvements and updates that the subsequently downloaded computer program has compared to the originally downloaded one must be covered by a maintenance agreement concluded between the rightholder and the first acquirer.
The original licensee must have made their own copies unusable.

This trade is legally permissible because the underlying license was already placed on the market with the consent of the rightholder within the EU/EEA or Switzerland in return for appropriate remuneration. As a result, the so-called principle of exhaustion has taken effect, which permits the resale of individual product keys — in particular those originating from volume license agreements. Microsoft or the respective software provider has already received appropriate remuneration for this.

keys.express and keys.discount ensure that the aforementioned conditions are met and that the lawful use of the software is guaranteed. The requirements arising from European legislation are also observed in Switzerland.

Important note: The acquisition of a product key through the transmission of a combination of numbers and letters in digital form does not, in itself, constitute a license for the lawful use of the program. The license only arises from the respective installation and the associated acceptance of the manufacturer's terms of use.

Overview of the Most Important Legal Information

We offer unused, non-activated product keys for the activation of the respective computer programs. The key alone is not yet a license.
The license only arises from the respective installation and the resulting acceptance of the terms of use. These terms of use govern the right to use the software between you and the respective manufacturer.
The principle of exhaustion has, as a rule, taken effect — i.e. the license is "used up" — as soon as it was lawfully placed on the market for the first time. The products concerned are software placed on the market for unlimited-time use in the form of an activatable product key with the option to download the program. Microsoft or the respective software provider has received appropriate remuneration for this.
You gain access to particularly attractively priced product keys from volume license agreements, which are to be treated legally in the same way as parts of volume licenses upon first acquisition.
The software itself is always the same original software that is also obtained through official download channels or manufacturer sources. You are therefore not paying for a different or inferior version, but for a valid activation key or a corresponding license.
