1) Installation Process
- Download and launch the Paragon Protect & Restore installer package
- Select: Installation → Administration Server (includes core services for centralized management)
- Click Next to start the setup wizard
- The wizard automatically:
- Checks system requirements
- Detects missing components (e.g., .NET Framework)
- Click Install when prompted
Note: Some prerequisites may require a system restart
- The wizard may prompt for service account credentials (default: Local System)
Requirements:
- Must be part of the Local Administrators group
- Must have permissions for:
- Remote deployment
- Hyper-V access
Recommendation: Domain Administrator is recommended but not mandatory
- The wizard installs:
- Administration Server
- Core backup and communication services
- Launch the Management Console or Web Interface to verify the Administration Server is accessible
Web Interface (if installed):
- https://<server-name>:<port>
- (Port depends on your configuration)
Verification:
- Open Services (services.msc)
- Confirm that Paragon-related services (e.g., Management Service, Backup Service) are running
2) Install Management Console
- Run the installer again (on the same server or a remote machine)
- Select: Installation → Management Console
- Click Install → Finish
- Open the console via:
- Desktop shortcut
- Start menu
- Enter:
- Server DNS name or IP address
- Credentials:
- Windows account OR
- User in Paragon Administrators group
This step connects your environment for centralized management.
3) Deploy Hyper-V Backup Components
- Run the installer on the Hyper-V host machine
- Ensure WinRM and remote management are enabled (required for remote deployment)
- Select: Backup Agent for Windows (with Hyper-V support)
- During setup, enter:
- Administration Server DNS/IP
- Default port: 60543 (unless changed)
- The system installs:
- Backup Agent
- Hyper-V integration components
The system automatically registers the host with the Administration Server.
After completion:
- The host appears in:
- Management Console → Infrastructure / Machines
Important:
- Remote deployment requires administrative credentials on the Hyper-V host
4) Activation Process
Online Activation (Recommended)
- Open the Management Console or Paragon licensing portal (ParagonBox, if applicable)
- Sign in to your account
- Enter or redeem your license key
Alternative Activation
- Management Console → Licensing section
- Enter your license key directly
5) Configure Backup Storage
- Go to Management Console → Storage / Repositories
- Add a storage location (local disk, network share, or external storage)
- Ensure sufficient disk space and good disk I/O performance
- This is required before creating backup jobs
6) Create Backup Job
- Go to Management Console → Backup Jobs
- Select the Hyper-V host or virtual machines
- Choose backup type (Full or Incremental)
- Select the storage repository
- Configure schedule (optional)
- Run the first backup manually to verify setup
Important Requirements
Network & Firewall
- Open TCP port: 60543 (used for communication between agents and the Administration Server)
DNS & Connectivity
- All machines must:
- Resolve server hostname
- Be reachable on the network
Hyper-V
- Hyper-V role must be installed
- VSS must be working properly
- Hyper-V Integration Services must be enabled
- All VSS writers must be stable
- Ensure no stuck or corrupted checkpoints (snapshots)
System Restart
- May be required after prerequisites installation
