Why one guide? These editions share the same installer and first‑run flow. Features differ by edition, but the download, install, sign‑in, and activation steps are identical.

Before you begin

  • Your Acronis account email and password, or your serial number/key.
  • Administrator rights on the device.
  • Internet connection (for sign‑in, activation, and updates).

Tip: Close other backup/security tools during installation to avoid permission prompts or service conflicts.

1) Download installer

  1. Go to account.acronis.com and sign in.
  2. Open My Products & Subscriptions.
  3. Find your product (any of the six editions listed above).
  4. Click Download to save the installer to your device:
    • Windows: .exe or .msi
    • macOS: .dmg

2) Install core application

Windows

  1. Double‑click the downloaded installer file.
  2. When User Account Control appears, click Yes.
  3. In the Setup Wizard:
    1. License: Accept the agreement, click Next.
    2. Destination: Choose folder (or keep default), click Next.
    3. Install: Click Install and wait for completion.
  4. Click Finish, then Start application if prompted.

MacOS

  1. Open the downloaded .dmg file.
  2. Double‑click Install Acronis and enter your admin password if asked.
  3. Accept the license terms and proceed through the steps.
  4. Grant required permissions when prompted:
    • Full Disk Access
    • Any additional Security & Privacy prompts
  5. Click Finish and open the app from Applications.

macOS permissions: If you skip Full Disk Access, backups/cloning may fail. You can grant later via System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access.

3) First‑run configuration

  1. Launch the app from the Start Menu (Windows) or Applications (macOS).
  2. Sign in with your Acronis account (recommended) or choose to enter a serial number later.
  3. Allow the app to check for updates (enabled by default).

4) Edition‑specific activation

After core install/sign‑in, features are unlocked by your edition. If prompted, enter your serial number and click Activate.

  • Essentials – core backup and basic protection.
  • Advanced – includes cloud backup and additional protection features.
  • Premium – top tier; includes all Advanced features plus premium services (e.g., advanced cyber protection).

5) Verify installation

  1. In the app, open Menu → About and confirm your edition and build.
  2. Create a quick test backup of a small folder to your preferred destination.
  3. Open Backup → Manage plans and confirm your plan/schedule is listed.

Tip: For cloud backup tiers, run a small test backup to Acronis Cloud and confirm the restore preview works.


Troubleshooting

Installer won’t start (Windows)

  • Right‑click the installer → Run as administrator.
  • Temporarily pause other backup/AV tools, then retry.

Missing permissions (macOS)

  • Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access and enable Acronis.
  • Reopen the app and retry the task.

Activation issues

  • Ensure you’re signed into the correct Acronis account used for purchase.
  • Re‑enter the serial number and retry activation.
  • Check internet connectivity or try again later.
