What are the main benefits of Word 2019?

Word 2019 is the perpetual, one-time-purchase desktop version of Microsoft's word processor, installed locally and used without a Microsoft 365 subscription. It carries the Office 2019 feature set – Learning Tools, LaTeX equations, and the Draw inking tab – but receives no new features and, since October 14, 2025, no further security updates.

One-time purchase – Pay once with no recurring subscription.
Works offline – Full editing without an internet connection.
Learning Tools – Read Aloud and adjustable text spacing.
LaTeX equations – Type formulas using linear LaTeX syntax.
Built-in PDF – Export documents to PDF without add-ons.
Familiar ribbon – Stable interface with no forced feature changes.

What does Word 2019 actually do for everyday work?

Word 2019 is a desktop word processor for writing, formatting, reviewing, and printing documents without any cloud sign-in. The concrete day-to-day gains over Word 2016 are Learning Tools (Read Aloud and adjustable text spacing), Focus Mode for distraction-free writing, and the option to type equations using LaTeX linear syntax instead of the older equation builder. The Draw tab adds pen input with Ink to Shape, which turns a rough hand-drawn shape into a clean vector object. It suits users who write long documents, academic papers, or reports on one PC and do not need real-time co-authoring.

Who is Word 2019 best suited for?

It fits users who want a permanent, offline copy of Word on Windows and explicitly do not want a Microsoft 365 subscription. Academic and technical writers benefit most from the LaTeX equation input and the improved Accessibility Checker, which flags issues against updated international standards before a document is shared. It is also practical for people who only need a word processor and treat spreadsheets (Excel) and presentations (PowerPoint) as outside their workflow. If a task later requires those apps, an Office suite or Microsoft 365 is the better fit, because standalone Word 2019 installs Word only.

How does Word 2019 differ from Word in Microsoft 365?

Word 2019 is a fixed, one-time-purchase version, while Microsoft 365 is a recurring plan whose Word app keeps gaining new features. Word 2019 keeps the Office 2016-style interface – the refreshed ribbon and icons that shipped with the 365 apps were never delivered to perpetual 2019 licences. It also has no real-time co-authoring, no Copilot, and no built-in OneDrive or SharePoint cloud storage; those remain Microsoft 365 features. If a workflow depends on live collaboration or ongoing feature updates, Microsoft 365 is the correct product; for stable, local document editing, Word 2019 is the match.

Does Word 2019 create PDF files?

Yes. Word 2019 includes built-in PDF export through Save As and Export, so documents can be saved as PDF without installing a separate converter. The export preserves headings, hyperlinks, and bookmarks, which matters when producing a table of contents or a document others will open in a PDF reader. For files that later need editing, signing, or OCR beyond simple export, a dedicated PDF tool is still required, since Word does not edit existing PDFs as fully as a PDF editor.

What technical limitations and missing features should buyers know about?

The most important limitation is lifecycle: support for Office 2019, including Word 2019, ended on October 14, 2025, so no further security or quality updates are released. Word 2019 also never receives new features – its feature set is frozen at the 2018 release, so Copilot, real-time co-authoring, and the modern 365 ribbon are absent. As a standalone product it installs Word only, with no Excel, PowerPoint, or Outlook. On Windows it runs on Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows Server 2019, and will not install on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1.

What should users check before choosing Word 2019?

First, confirm the Windows version – Word 2019 installs on Windows 10, Windows 11, or Windows Server 2019 and will not run on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1. Second, decide whether Word alone is enough; if the workflow also needs Excel, PowerPoint, or Outlook, an Office suite or Microsoft 365 is the right purchase instead. Third, factor in that Office 2019 reached end of support on October 14, 2025, so there are no new security patches, which matters most on internet-facing or shared machines. Finally, if you exchange files with Microsoft 365 users, confirm that templates and macros behave the same, since the underlying major version is 16.0.

Frequently asked questions about Word 2019

Is Word 2019 a classic desktop version of Word?

Yes. Word 2019 is a one-time-purchase, locally installed desktop application, not a streamed or browser-based app. It launches without a Microsoft 365 sign-in, and after installation it does not need an internet connection to open or edit documents.

Does Word 2019 include Excel, PowerPoint, or Outlook?

No. The standalone Word 2019 product installs Word only. Users who also need spreadsheets, presentations, or email should choose an Office suite edition (such as Home & Business) or Microsoft 365 instead.

Does Word 2019 still receive security updates?

No. Support for Office 2019, including Word 2019, ended on October 14, 2025, so Microsoft no longer ships security or quality updates for it. The app keeps working, but newly discovered security issues will not be patched, which is worth weighing on shared or internet-connected PCs.

Can Word 2019 open documents from Word 2021 or Microsoft 365?

Yes. Word 2019 uses the same .docx format and the same major version (16.0) as Word 2016, 2021, and the Microsoft 365 apps, so files usually open without conversion. Documents that rely on newer 365-only features may show those elements as static content, but the text and standard formatting remain editable.

Legal Information

Legal Information About Our Products

keys.express and keys.discount are online platforms for product keys. The product keys available in our shops for Windows and other software are inexpensive, secure, legal and come with an activation guarantee.

Below you will find the most important legal information about our products.

Unused and Non-Activated Product Keys

We offer exclusively unused and non-activated product keys. The keys have never been redeemed for activation and are fully available to the purchaser for the first-time activation of the respective product. A key that has already been redeemed could no longer be used for a new activation and is therefore not offered by us.

Trading in these product keys is permissible in the European Union and in Switzerland under current case law, provided that the necessary conditions are met. These conditions are as follows:

The software must originally have been placed on the market with the consent of the rightholder within the territory of the EU, another contracting state of the EEA, or Switzerland by way of sale.
The license for the software must have been granted in return for the payment of a fee intended to enable the rightholder to obtain remuneration corresponding to the economic value of the copy of the software.
The rightholder must have granted the first acquirer the right to use the software permanently (for an unlimited period).
Any improvements and updates that the subsequently downloaded computer program has compared to the originally downloaded one must be covered by a maintenance agreement concluded between the rightholder and the first acquirer.
The original licensee must have made their own copies unusable.

This trade is legally permissible because the underlying license was already placed on the market with the consent of the rightholder within the EU/EEA or Switzerland in return for appropriate remuneration. As a result, the so-called principle of exhaustion has taken effect, which permits the resale of individual product keys — in particular those originating from volume license agreements. Microsoft or the respective software provider has already received appropriate remuneration for this.

keys.express and keys.discount ensure that the aforementioned conditions are met and that the lawful use of the software is guaranteed. The requirements arising from European legislation are also observed in Switzerland.

Important note: The acquisition of a product key through the transmission of a combination of numbers and letters in digital form does not, in itself, constitute a license for the lawful use of the program. The license only arises from the respective installation and the associated acceptance of the manufacturer's terms of use.

Legal assessment by Swiss lawyers

Overview of the Most Important Legal Information

We offer unused, non-activated product keys for the activation of the respective computer programs. The key alone is not yet a license.
The license only arises from the respective installation and the resulting acceptance of the terms of use. These terms of use govern the right to use the software between you and the respective manufacturer.
The principle of exhaustion has, as a rule, taken effect — i.e. the license is "used up" — as soon as it was lawfully placed on the market for the first time. The products concerned are software placed on the market for unlimited-time use in the form of an activatable product key with the option to download the program. Microsoft or the respective software provider has received appropriate remuneration for this.
You gain access to particularly attractively priced product keys from volume license agreements, which are to be treated legally in the same way as parts of volume licenses upon first acquisition.
The software itself is always the same original software that is also obtained through official download channels or manufacturer sources. You are therefore not paying for a different or inferior version, but for a valid activation key or a corresponding license.
