What does Microsoft Project 2024 Professional do?

Project Professional 2024 is a desktop application for building project schedules, assigning resources, and tracking progress on one Windows PC. It provides Gantt charts, automated scheduling, critical path analysis, and baselines, and adds Professional-only capabilities such as enterprise resource pooling, the Team Planner view, and timesheet submission. Built-in reports like Burndown and Resource Overview turn schedule data into stakeholder-ready visuals without exporting to another tool. It captures both project and non-project work hours, which is what separates it from a simple task list or spreadsheet plan.

What does Project 2024 Professional do for everyday project work?

It replaces spreadsheet-based tracking for managers who run schedules with real dependencies and shared resources. Task path highlighting in the Gantt chart shows exactly which predecessor tasks drive a selected task's start and finish dates, so slippage is easy to trace. Baselines let you compare actual progress against the original plan, and the Team Planner view lets you drag an assignment from an over-allocated person to a free one instead of editing tables cell by cell. The concrete daily gain over Standard is enterprise resource pooling, which keeps the same resource's availability consistent across several open project files.

Who is Project 2024 Professional best suited for?

It fits project managers and PMOs who coordinate shared resources across more than one project at a time, in fields such as construction, IT, engineering, and consulting. The specific reason to choose Professional over Standard is resource pooling and connectivity to Project Online or Project Server, which let several plans draw on one central pool of people without double-booking. A solo manager running a single offline plan does not need those features and can use the cheaper Project Standard 2024 instead. Choose Professional when capacity across projects, timesheet capture, or SharePoint task sharing is part of the workflow.

How does Project 2024 Professional differ from Project 2024 Standard?

Both editions are perpetual, install on a single Windows PC, and share the same core scheduling engine, Gantt charts, and built-in reports. Project Professional 2024 adds enterprise resource pooling, the Team Planner view, timesheet submission, SharePoint task-list sync, and connectivity to Project Online and Project Server – none of which exist in Standard. The table below summarises the verified differences.

How does Project 2024 Professional differ from Microsoft 365 and Project Plan subscriptions?

Microsoft Project is not part of any Microsoft 365 or Office plan – it is always sold separately, whether as a perpetual desktop licence or as a Project Plan subscription. Project Professional 2024 is the one-time-purchase desktop edition, while Project Plan 3 is a recurring subscription that always installs the latest Project version and can run on up to five PCs. The subscription Project Online Desktop Client adds Kanban task boards that the perpetual desktop editions do not carry, but it stops working when the subscription lapses. For teams that want cloud portfolio management and continuous feature updates, a Project Plan fits; for stable, offline desktop scheduling with no recurring fee, Project Professional 2024 is the match.

What technical limitations and missing features should buyers know about?

Project Professional 2024 is a standalone scheduling application; it does not bundle Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or any other Office program, so a separate Office or Microsoft 365 purchase is still needed for documents. It is a Windows desktop product with no native Mac version – Office LTSC for Mac 2024 ships Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote, but not Project. The online-presence, chat, and call features shown next to team members rely on Microsoft Teams, which is licensed separately and not part of this product. As an LTSC release it receives security and quality fixes only through October 2029 and will not gain new features over its lifetime, so buyers who need ongoing feature updates should compare against a Project Plan subscription first.

Does Project 2024 Professional work with files from older Project versions?

Yes – project plans created in Project 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019, and 2021 open directly in Project 2024, because those releases share the same desktop file format. If you need to hand a schedule back to someone still running Project 2007, save it in the Project 2007 file format to avoid compatibility problems. In practice this means an existing schedule can be migrated into Project 2024 Professional without rebuilding tasks, links, or resource assignments from scratch. Older baselines and custom fields carry over, so historical progress data stays intact after the upgrade.

What should users check before choosing Project 2024 Professional?

First, decide whether you actually need the Professional-only features – enterprise resource pooling, Team Planner, timesheets, and Project Online/Server sync; if you manage single offline plans, Project Standard 2024 covers the same core scheduling for less. Second, remember Project is separate from Office, so it will not install Word or Excel alongside it. Third, confirm your environment is a supported Windows version, since there is no Mac edition of Project and the app runs on Windows only. Finally, plan around the October 2029 support end date so the next upgrade is scheduled before security updates stop.

Legal Information

Legal Information About Our Products

keys.express and keys.discount are online platforms for product keys. The product keys available in our shops for Windows and other software are inexpensive, secure, legal and come with an activation guarantee.

Below you will find the most important legal information about our products.

Unused and Non-Activated Product Keys

We offer exclusively unused and non-activated product keys. The keys have never been redeemed for activation and are fully available to the purchaser for the first-time activation of the respective product. A key that has already been redeemed could no longer be used for a new activation and is therefore not offered by us.

Trading in these product keys is permissible in the European Union and in Switzerland under current case law, provided that the necessary conditions are met. These conditions are as follows:

The software must originally have been placed on the market with the consent of the rightholder within the territory of the EU, another contracting state of the EEA, or Switzerland by way of sale.
The license for the software must have been granted in return for the payment of a fee intended to enable the rightholder to obtain remuneration corresponding to the economic value of the copy of the software.
The rightholder must have granted the first acquirer the right to use the software permanently (for an unlimited period).
Any improvements and updates that the subsequently downloaded computer program has compared to the originally downloaded one must be covered by a maintenance agreement concluded between the rightholder and the first acquirer.
The original licensee must have made their own copies unusable.

This trade is legally permissible because the underlying license was already placed on the market with the consent of the rightholder within the EU/EEA or Switzerland in return for appropriate remuneration. As a result, the so-called principle of exhaustion has taken effect, which permits the resale of individual product keys — in particular those originating from volume license agreements. Microsoft or the respective software provider has already received appropriate remuneration for this.

keys.express and keys.discount ensure that the aforementioned conditions are met and that the lawful use of the software is guaranteed. The requirements arising from European legislation are also observed in Switzerland.

Important note: The acquisition of a product key through the transmission of a combination of numbers and letters in digital form does not, in itself, constitute a license for the lawful use of the program. The license only arises from the respective installation and the associated acceptance of the manufacturer's terms of use.

Legal assessment by Swiss lawyers

Overview of the Most Important Legal Information

We offer unused, non-activated product keys for the activation of the respective computer programs. The key alone is not yet a license.
The license only arises from the respective installation and the resulting acceptance of the terms of use. These terms of use govern the right to use the software between you and the respective manufacturer.
The principle of exhaustion has, as a rule, taken effect — i.e. the license is "used up" — as soon as it was lawfully placed on the market for the first time. The products concerned are software placed on the market for unlimited-time use in the form of an activatable product key with the option to download the program. Microsoft or the respective software provider has received appropriate remuneration for this.
You gain access to particularly attractively priced product keys from volume license agreements, which are to be treated legally in the same way as parts of volume licenses upon first acquisition.
The software itself is always the same original software that is also obtained through official download channels or manufacturer sources. You are therefore not paying for a different or inferior version, but for a valid activation key or a corresponding license.
