What are the main benefits of Microsoft Excel 2024?

Microsoft Excel 2024 is the one-time-purchase, perpetual desktop version of Excel from the Office LTSC 2024 family, installed locally on one Windows PC. It receives only security and quality updates through October 9, 2029 and gets no new feature rollouts over its lifetime.

One-time purchase – Pay once instead of a monthly fee.
Offline ready – Full spreadsheet work without an internet connection.
Frozen feature set – No surprise ribbon or interface changes later.
Add-in compatible – Version 16.0 keeps most 2016 to 2021 add-ins working.
Faster workbooks – Fewer hang-ups with several workbooks open together.
Local files – No forced OneDrive or cloud storage dependency.

What does Microsoft Excel 2024 actually do for everyday work?

It replaces older standalone Excel versions (2019, 2021) for users who need a fixed, non-subscription spreadsheet program for daily analysis and reporting. The most concrete gain is in formulas: 14 new text and array functions (TEXTSPLIT, TEXTBEFORE, TEXTAFTER, VSTACK, HSTACK, TOROW, TOCOL, WRAPROWS, WRAPCOLS, TAKE, DROP, CHOOSEROWS, CHOOSECOLS, EXPAND) replace long nested LEFT/RIGHT/SEARCH constructions when cleaning imported data. The IMAGE function pulls pictures from a URL into a cell so they sort and filter with the row, LAMBDA lets you save a repeated formula as a named custom function, and dynamic-array charts redraw themselves when a spilled range grows. Microsoft also improved calculation speed and stability when several independent workbooks are open at once.

Who is Excel 2024 best suited for?

It fits users and organisations that run Excel locally on Windows and specifically do not want a Microsoft 365 subscription for their spreadsheet work. A typical case is an accountant or analyst who maintains VBA-driven templates and needs a frozen feature set during the five-year support window (security updates through October 9, 2029) so macros and add-ins are not disrupted by monthly updates. It also suits single-PC users who only need Excel and treat Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook as outside their workflow. If a workflow depends on Copilot assistance or Python in Excel, a Microsoft 365 plan is the better match, since those are not part of the 2024 perpetual release.

How does Excel 2024 differ from the Excel in Microsoft 365?

Excel 2024 is a fixed, one-time-purchase desktop app; the Excel in Microsoft 365 is a subscription app that keeps adding features. Excel 2024 does not include Copilot in Excel, Python in Excel, or real-time cloud co-authoring, and it will not receive functions added to Microsoft 365 after its October 2024 launch. In practice this means later additions such as the GROUPBY and PIVOTBY functions and in-cell regex, which shipped to Microsoft 365 afterwards, are not part of Excel 2024. If a workflow needs AI assistance, Python analysis, or shared live editing, Microsoft 365 is the correct product; for stable, local-only spreadsheet work, Excel 2024 is the match.

What technical limitations and missing features should buyers know about?

Excel 2024 is sold as a standalone spreadsheet program, so Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook are not part of it and must be bought separately or as an Office 2024 suite. It has no Copilot, no Python in Excel, and no built-in OneDrive or SharePoint cloud services, and the earlier Publish to Power BI feature has been removed in favour of the Power BI service. By default it blocks XLL add-ins downloaded from the internet, so a legacy internet-sourced add-in must be trusted manually before it will load. New features released to the Microsoft 365 version after October 2024 will not arrive on this perpetual release.

Does Excel 2024 work with older spreadsheets and add-ins?

Yes – it opens and saves the standard .xlsx and legacy .xls formats and adds OpenDocument Format (ODF) 1.4 support for spreadsheets. The internal major version is 16.0, the same as Excel 2016, 2019, and LTSC 2021, so most existing VBA macros, COM add-ins, and third-party Excel add-ins built for those versions usually keep working with little or no rework. This matters when migrating a department PC by PC, because accounting macros and custom ribbons rarely have to be rebuilt. The one behaviour change to plan for is that XLL add-ins from the internet are blocked by default and need manual approval.

What should users check before choosing Excel 2024?

First, confirm the operating system – Excel 2024 installs on Windows 10 or Windows 11 and will not run on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1. Second, decide whether you also need Word, PowerPoint, or Outlook; if you do, an Office 2024 suite is usually cheaper per application than buying single apps. Third, check whether the workflow depends on Copilot, Python in Excel, or live cloud co-authoring, because those stay exclusive to Microsoft 365. Finally, plan around the October 9, 2029 support end date so the upgrade path is clear in advance.

Frequently asked questions about Microsoft Excel 2024

Do I need an existing Office installation to run Excel 2024?

No. Excel 2024 installs as its own standalone desktop program and does not require a base Office suite or any other Office app to be present first. It runs independently on a single Windows PC, so you can add it to a machine that has no other Office software.

Does Excel 2024 receive new features over time?

No. Excel 2024 is a perpetual release that receives only security and quality updates through October 9, 2029. New spreadsheet features released to the Microsoft 365 version after the 2024 launch are not added to this product.

Legal Information

Legal Information About Our Products

keys.express and keys.discount are online platforms for product keys. The product keys available in our shops for Windows and other software are inexpensive, secure, legal and come with an activation guarantee.

Below you will find the most important legal information about our products.

Unused and Non-Activated Product Keys

We offer exclusively unused and non-activated product keys. The keys have never been redeemed for activation and are fully available to the purchaser for the first-time activation of the respective product. A key that has already been redeemed could no longer be used for a new activation and is therefore not offered by us.

Trading in these product keys is permissible in the European Union and in Switzerland under current case law, provided that the necessary conditions are met. These conditions are as follows:

The software must originally have been placed on the market with the consent of the rightholder within the territory of the EU, another contracting state of the EEA, or Switzerland by way of sale.
The license for the software must have been granted in return for the payment of a fee intended to enable the rightholder to obtain remuneration corresponding to the economic value of the copy of the software.
The rightholder must have granted the first acquirer the right to use the software permanently (for an unlimited period).
Any improvements and updates that the subsequently downloaded computer program has compared to the originally downloaded one must be covered by a maintenance agreement concluded between the rightholder and the first acquirer.
The original licensee must have made their own copies unusable.

This trade is legally permissible because the underlying license was already placed on the market with the consent of the rightholder within the EU/EEA or Switzerland in return for appropriate remuneration. As a result, the so-called principle of exhaustion has taken effect, which permits the resale of individual product keys — in particular those originating from volume license agreements. Microsoft or the respective software provider has already received appropriate remuneration for this.

keys.express and keys.discount ensure that the aforementioned conditions are met and that the lawful use of the software is guaranteed. The requirements arising from European legislation are also observed in Switzerland.

Important note: The acquisition of a product key through the transmission of a combination of numbers and letters in digital form does not, in itself, constitute a license for the lawful use of the program. The license only arises from the respective installation and the associated acceptance of the manufacturer's terms of use.

Overview of the Most Important Legal Information

We offer unused, non-activated product keys for the activation of the respective computer programs. The key alone is not yet a license.
The license only arises from the respective installation and the resulting acceptance of the terms of use. These terms of use govern the right to use the software between you and the respective manufacturer.
The principle of exhaustion has, as a rule, taken effect — i.e. the license is "used up" — as soon as it was lawfully placed on the market for the first time. The products concerned are software placed on the market for unlimited-time use in the form of an activatable product key with the option to download the program. Microsoft or the respective software provider has received appropriate remuneration for this.
You gain access to particularly attractively priced product keys from volume license agreements, which are to be treated legally in the same way as parts of volume licenses upon first acquisition.
The software itself is always the same original software that is also obtained through official download channels or manufacturer sources. You are therefore not paying for a different or inferior version, but for a valid activation key or a corresponding license.
