Installation Guide for AOMEI Backupper Professional / Workstation / Server / Technician / Technician Plus

This single guide applies to these editions, which share the same installer and wizard: Professional, Workstation, Server, Technician, and Technician Plus. Your license determines features and rights; the installation flow is identical.
  • Windows 7 → Windows 11
  • Windows Server (editions that require it)
  • Admin rights required

1) Pre‑install Checklist

  1. Supported OS
    • PC editions (Professional / Workstation): Windows 11 / 10 / 8.1 / 8 / 7
    • Server‑class editions (Server / Technician / Technician Plus): Windows Server family (e.g., 2025 / 2022 / 2019 / 2016 / 2012) and contemporary client OSs
  2. Permissions: Sign in with a Windows administrator account (needed to install services/drivers).
  3. Disk space & state: Ensure adequate free disk space; close other apps to avoid file locks.
  4. Internet access (recommended): Needed for online activation and update checks. Offline activation is available.

Tip: If this is an upgrade, export your task configs or note schedules before proceeding.

2) Download the Installer

  1. Go to the official AOMEI Backupper page and choose the edition matching your license (or download the trial).
  2. Download the Windows installer (commonly named AOMEIBackupperSetup.exe or BAK n.n.exe depending on version).
  3. Verify the download completes without errors.

Security: Prefer downloading directly from the vendor. Keep the file checksum if provided by your organization’s policy.

3) Run the Setup Wizard

  1. Run as Administrator: Right‑click the downloaded .exe and choose Run as administrator. Approve the UAC prompt.
  2. Welcome: Click Next to begin.
  3. License Agreement: Review and click I Agree (or Accept).
  4. Install Location: Accept the default path (e.g., C:\Program Files\AOMEI Backupper) or select Browse… to change.
  5. Shortcuts & Options (optional): Choose desktop/start‑menu shortcuts as offered by the wizard.
  6. Install: Click Install to copy files and register AOMEI services/drivers.
  7. Finish: Click Finish. If prompted to restart Windows, save your work and reboot to finalize.

Heads‑up: If a previous installation exists or files are in use, the installer may request a reboot. Close other apps beforehand to reduce interruptions.

4) First Launch & Activation

The UI and flow are identical across editions. Activation unlocks the features of your license.

A) Online Activation (Recommended)

  1. Launch AOMEI Backupper from the Start menu or desktop.
  2. Open Menu (☰)Register/Activate.
  3. Enter your License Code and click Register/Activate with an active Internet connection.

B) Offline Activation

  1. In the activation dialog, choose Offline Registration to view your device’s Machine Code.
  2. On another Internet‑connected device, open the vendor’s Offline Key page and provide both your License Code and Machine Code to generate an Offline Key.
  3. Return to the target PC, paste the Offline Key, and click Register.

5) Post‑install Verification & Basic Setup

  1. Confirm Edition: Menu (☰) → About should show Professional, Workstation, Server, Technician, or Technician Plus as licensed.
  2. Check for Updates: Menu (☰) → Check for Updates.
  3. Set Default Options: Menu (☰) → Settings → configure:
    • Default backup destination (local disk, USB, NAS).
    • Compression / encryption preferences.
    • Task scheduling engine (AOMEI service vs. Windows Task Scheduler), if available.
  4. Create a Test Backup: Go to BackupSystem Backup to validate the installation end‑to‑end.

Good practice: Store backup jobs on a drive separate from your system disk, and verify you can restore from bootable media.

6) Troubleshooting (Install/Launch)

  1. Remove Stuck Service & ReinstallIf a previous service instance is corrupted, remove it, then reinstall:
    "C:\\Program Files\\AOMEI Backupper\\ABService.exe" -remove
  2. Close Other Apps and retry the wizard if files are in use; reboot when prompted.
  3. Run as Administrator to ensure services/drivers register correctly.
  4. Match OS & License (e.g., Server OS requires Server/Technician‑class license).

7) Uninstalling or Repairing

Use standard Windows app management:

  • Settings → Apps → Installed apps (or Control Panel → Programs and Features) → select AOMEI BackupperUninstall.
  • Reinstall using the steps above for a clean repair.
