What are the main benefits of ACDSee Photo Studio Ultimate 2024?

ACDSee Photo Studio Ultimate 2024 is the top edition of the 2024 Photo Studio line for Windows, released in September 2023. It combines a catalog-based photo manager, a non-destructive RAW developer and a layer-based pixel editor in one application.

One-app workflow – Cull, keyword, develop and composite without exporting between programs.
Faster keyword tagging – AI Keywords tag large archives automatically while you browse.
Name faces once – Face recognition suggests names for matching faces across your library.
Precise selections – AI Object Selection outlines several objects from rough strokes.
Metadata portability – Two-way ACDSee and IPTC keyword embedding keeps tags readable elsewhere.
Merged exposures – Panorama, HDR and focus stacking built into the suite.

What does ACDSee Photo Studio Ultimate 2024 do?

ACDSee Photo Studio Ultimate 2024 is a Windows application that combines photo cataloging, non-destructive RAW development and layer-based pixel editing in one program. You import and cull in Manage mode, name people in People mode, process RAW files in Develop mode and build composites in the Layered Editor inside Edit mode. Because all modes work from the same ACDSee database, ratings, keywords and Develop settings stay with the file as you move from one step to the next. Develop mode stores adjustments separately from the original file, so a RAW image can be re-processed months later without starting from a degraded copy.

What is new in ACDSee Photo Studio Ultimate 2024?

The 2024 release added three AI tools: AI Keywords, AI Sky Replacement and the AI Object Selection tool. AI Sky Replacement ships with preset skies in categories such as Sunset, Storm and Night Sky, and offers foreground and water-reflection options so the new sky also appears in lakes or wet surfaces. Develop mode gained a dedicated Masking group where AI subject, sky and background masks can be duplicated, converted from selections, and copied and pasted between images. Portrait retouching benefits from an improved AI Face Edit with horizontal and vertical eye-direction control and a new skin group for smoothing and glow, while the Edit brush now offers Flow, Opacity and Jitter settings.

What is the difference between ACDSee Photo Studio Professional 2024 and Ultimate 2024?

The decisive difference is that only Ultimate 2024 includes the Layered Editor, with limitless layers, layer masks, layer effects and adjustment layers. Both editions share non-destructive RAW development, AI Keywords, the AI subject, sky and background selections, People mode with facial recognition, and Photomerge for panoramas, HDR and focus stacking. Ultimate adds AI Sky Replacement, the AI Object Selection tool, AI Face Edit and text layers placed on a path or inside a frame. If your work ends at organizing and developing RAW files, Professional covers it; if you replace skies, retouch portraits or combine several images into one composition, Ultimate does it without a second editing program.

Does ACDSee Photo Studio Ultimate 2024 run on macOS?

No, ACDSee Photo Studio Ultimate 2024 is a Windows-only application and requires a 64-bit edition of Windows 10 or Windows 11. There is no macOS installer for this product; Apple users are directed to ACDSee Photo Studio for Mac, which is a separate product with its own feature set. If part of your team works on Macs, check every workstation's operating system before standardizing on the Ultimate edition.

What limitations should you know before buying ACDSee Photo Studio Ultimate 2024?

ACD Systems' own release notes state that layers are not preserved when you edit GSD, PSD or TIFF files, so multi-layer work should be saved in ACDSee's native .acdc format rather than handed back as a layered PSD. Those .acdc files are not supported in Ultimate 2021 or older, which matters if a colleague still works with an older version. Several tools shown in current ACDSee marketing arrived later: non-destructive AI Object Masking in Develop mode and batch AI Super-Resolution came with the 2025 version, batch AI Denoise with 2026, and generative AI fill and editing only with 2027. AVIF and JPEG XL support are likewise not part of the 2024 version.

Can you switch from Lightroom to ACDSee Photo Studio Ultimate 2024?

Yes, Ultimate 2024 can import a Lightroom database as well as face data from Lightroom and Picasa, so people you have already tagged do not have to be named again. ACD Systems recommends restarting ACDSee after importing a Lightroom database. Keywords and categories can also be written into standard IPTC fields and read back in both directions, which keeps your tagging usable in other software if you change tools again later.

Which file formats does ACDSee Photo Studio Ultimate 2024 support?

Ultimate 2024 develops RAW files from over 700 camera models at launch, and ACD Systems adds new cameras through regular updates. The 2024 builds added HIF support, Display P3 color profiles for HEIC/HEIF images and improved handling of Google Pixel DNG files, which helps when you shoot HEIF on newer camera bodies or RAW on a smartphone. It also handles GoPro RAW (.GPR) files and transparent or animated WebP images.
